Cancer is caused by deficiency of vital qi and an excess of pathogens. Therefore, the principle treatment is to strengthen vital qi and eliminate pathogenic factors. However, each patient may have different symptoms which indicate various levels and kinds of deficiencies and excesses. Therefore, TCVM treatment is individualized and focuses on specific conditions during any specific period of the diseases progression and/or recession.
The use of an integrative (herbal medicine, acupuncture, food therapy) approach to cancer has been shown to promote remission, prolong survival time, provide a high quality of life, improve overall well-being and produce fewer adverse effects than the use of conventional cancer treatments alone. In some cases it has been clinically shown to heal the cancerous cells completely. The use of Chinese medicine alone or in combination with Western medical methods had been highly successful in treating animals with cancer.
Our patients can start on herbal medicine and acupuncture treatment as earlier as 2 weeks prior to chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
Acupuncture and herbal medicine can be used to strengthen and prepare the body for surgery and help to recover after surgery. Herbal medicine, acupuncture and food therapy is usually recommended for a minimum of 2 years post conventional treatment.
