Giving Leonardo Comfort

Leonardo’s Story 🐶

At 12 years of age, my first dog, “Leonardo”, a welsh pembroke corgi, was diagnosed with DM (Degenerative Myelopathy), an insidious genetic disease which erodes the nerves of the spinal cord. It begins with a loss of coordination in the hind limbs, progressing over time to complete paralysis.

His specialist informed us that there are no options for treating DM and it was just a matter of time before he would die or need to be euthanized. But Leo was still such an energetic, healthy dog, even though he was loosing the use of his hind legs. We didn’t want to give up on him and wanted to give him the best quality of life for the time he had left.

His physiotherapist told us about Dr KK so we got in touch and she started treating Leo. She gave him regular acupuncture and provided TCVM medicine to help slowdown the progression of the illness. She also gave a lot of advice about food, supplements and massage we could use to keep him in the best condition.

When Leo developed a urinary infection, as often occurs as DM progresses, she prescribed antibiotics to rectify the problem as soon as possible. Then she looked for TCVM methods to strengthen his system to try to prevent a reoccurrence. She is very astute at balancing between Western and Eastern medicine, using them in a complimentary way.

Dr KK was always available to listen, give advice and help whenever we had problems with his condition. She was always positive and always supported us. She never gave up on him and was a major factor enabling us to continue caring for him to the very end.

Finally, aged 14, Leo passed away naturally and peacefully in my arms.

We are delighted we had the opportunity to meet Dr KK. We highly recommend her to anyone who doesn’t want to give up on their fluffy one’s illness. She will always help you do the best for your furry friend.
